How to wax your surf board

/>

Waxing a surfboard is easy and is essential for improving the quality of traction and reducing slippiness.

You will need some basecoat wax, some topcoat wax and a wax comb as well.

If you have waxed your board before then you may also need a couple of towels and some wax cleaner, as this will help to remove any residue from the board.

Start by using your wax comb to remove the wax and make sure that you remove it from all the sides as well. After this has been done, you can proceed to putting on the basecoat.

Your Basecoat
This is quite possibly the most important step. Your basecoat wax is much harder, compared to your topcoat wax so keep this in mind when applying it to your own board. There are several different techniques for waxing your board....

Criss-cross, horizontal, vertical, oblique and circular rubbing.
Never apply new wax to an old, dirty, sandy and less sticky one.

Top Coat
The top coat of your wax will be applied in a similar way to the basecoat but it is much softer so you won't need to push down as much. Do this until your entire board has been waxed and always make sure that the wax has been evenly applied to ensure a top quality finish. It is important to know that your board will lose wax over time, even if you haven't used it so it is always a good idea to make sure that your board is prepared and fully waxed before you go out hitting the waves again.
